Welcome. It has been an interesting and challenging year for ASAV. So much has been happening. The new board seems to be settling into their roles well.

ASAV has been involved in the process required by ISG to become an affiliate member. I frankly thought this would be a relatively easy objective for ASAV. While I suspect ISG does not intend for the process to be arduous, miscommunication brought about by distance, differing languages and cultures, and perhaps some amount of mistrust, has been happening. It has been frustrating, but there is reason to think these communication issues will improve. I think it is simply a matter of getting the right people into the conversations, working to focus on what we can agree on, keeping an open mind, and speaking clearly and honestly about the issues we each face in our homelands. It is ASAV's hope that we can become an affiliate of ISG. But we also realize that becoming an ISG affiliate is a process that involves change, perhaps changes for both ASAV and ISG. America is not Europe, and it is not a reasonable assumption to think that all associations in America shall operate alike. ASAV's elected board intends to do their part towards making this happen.

The entire Breeding Committee has been under considerable strain for the last several months, Darlene Stevens and Daunna Sellers in particular have wholeheartedly applied themselves to the many aspects of registry database management. We are all very grateful for their dedication. What I have been seeing is a super effort. Irene Noll, our ASAV member living near Cologne Germany, has done a wonderful job ironing out pedigree details. ASAV has been very fortunate to have her on the team. Chris Evans is our newest member of this committee. Chris has also been a big help with ideas and tracking down details. Thank you ASAV Breeding Committee for all the great work. It shows.

There has been talk about ASAV members plans to attend the ISG meeting this summer in France. This would be an opportunity for many to meet other ISG members and its board of directors. Please contact Donna Coss if you think you might be interested in attending.

Plans are being made for our ASAV annual meeting that will be in late fall and as has been the norm, there are always special speakers and events. Stay tuned to find out about this. If you have any ideas, they are always welcome.

The ASAV board of directors now has a full complement of hard working, fully engaged people who are striving towards a democratic and working association. The goal is always the promotion and welfare of our chosen breed, the Shagya Arabian! Several new members have been added and they are true advocates of our wonderful horses.

Many of you have received the forms for membership renewal and I urge you to join and/or renew your membership. Steve Boles has done a great job leading this effort. Thanks Steve. Exciting times are ahead for ASAV.

Best Wishes and Happy New Year!

Hello to our Shagya Family,

Well, 2012 is upon us and I hope everyone is looking forward to a successful and prosperous year. As your Membership Chairperson I hope everyone received their membership forms and survey in good order and you plan to re-join us in our efforts to promote the Shagya Arabian. ASAV would really love to have your input into how we can best serve your interests as well as these wonderful horses. Please take a few minutes to complete the survey and send it back to us to evaluate.

For your convenience you should have received a follow-up email with an electronic version attached which you can complete and send back to vaboles@centurylink.net. If you did not receive a Membership letter with survey in the mail please email me and I will make sure you receive all the necessary information. Remember you can go to our website at www.shagyaregistry.com to register as well.

ASAV has many exciting events planned for 2012 one of which may be a trip to France in July for the International Shagya-araber Gesellshaft meeting. If you are interested in joining this group please let us know via the Membership survey. We will again have our National Membership meeting, National Distance Challenge ride, as well as our "Just Do It" Awards. If you are already a member of ASAV we appreciate your help and input. Please tell your friends with a similar interest in the Shagya Arabian to join us as well.

Here's to a great 2012 for you and your family along with your beautiful Shagyas.
